Two fishermen have had the fright of their lives as they encountered an "enormous" great white shark circling their fishing boat off the coast of Port Drummond, South Australia.

"That thing is a submarine," fisherman Michael Scheffler said, watching the behemoth breach the water no more than an arms' length from his boat.
"That is a monster."

Mr Scheffler used uncommon terms to describe the killing machine - "gentle" and "inquisitive".

"Out of nowhere this majestic and rather enormous great white shark slowly came to the surface," Mr Scheffler told Nine News.
"That was relatively eerie to see a massive dorsal fin out of the water, slowly accelerating as we did."
