David Corenswet set to star in new film Superman: Legacy

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are set to star as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy.

Gunn, best known for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy films and The Suicide Squad, plans to reboot the DC Universe with a new storyline and a new cast.

Cavill has held the title of Superman since 2013, when he starred in Man of Steel.

Since then, he has featured in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), Zach Snyder's Justice League (2021) and made a cameo in Black Adam (2022).

Corenswet however is relatively new to the big screen with this being his first leading role in a major studio production.

The actor, 29, played Jake alongside Lili Reinhart in the 2022 Netflix film Look Both Ways and has previously featured in Hollywood (2020), Pearl (2022) and We Own This City (2022).

Corenswet and Brosnahan, best known for her role in the comedy drama The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, were among a select few testing for the role in full costume and makeup.

The other actors vying for the Superman role included British stars Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult, while Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey were contenders for the role of Lois Lane.

Superman: Legacy was announced by DC co-chairs Gunn and Peter Safran earlier this year as the film that would launch DC's new era.

A new Batman film - Batman: The Brave and the Bold - is also in the works.

Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025, and is reportedly about Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.
